Federico Fazio demands Tottenham Hotspur improvement

Federico Fazio has urged his Tottenham Hotspur teammates to produce a response to their FA Cup exit when they meet Sheffield United in the second leg of the League Cup semi-final.

Spurs conceded two late goals at White Hart Lane on Saturday as Leicester City recorded a 2-1 victory in the fourth round of the FA Cup, and Fazio believes that Mauricio Pochettino's side must get back to their best at Bramall Lane.

"Saturday was a match that we wanted to win and I think we played well in some parts of the game. We were aggressive all together on the pitch, but some days you're unlucky in some of your actions and we ended up losing," the Argentine told the club's website.

"Now we need to think about the next game at Sheffield United. We need to take some of the things that we did well against Leicester and improve on other elements in this game.

"It's a very important match and we all really want to get to the final. We must improve on our performance from Saturday, fight for what we want and be fully focused."

A penalty from Andros Townsend handed Spurs a 1-0 win in the first leg last week.

Chelsea target Sergio Ramos

Chelsea have reportedly contacted Sergio Ramos's agent over the prospect of luring the Real Madrid defender to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

Negotiations over extending his contract - which expires in 2017 - are thought to have reached an impasse, with Ramos said to have rejected their latest offer.

The rejection is believed to be borne out of the Blancos' refusal to give him what Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema are earning at the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, the Blues are willing to satisfy his salary demands and have approached his agent to gauge the likelihood of a switch materialising, according to the Daily Express.

Ramos, who has previously worked with Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid, is also reported to have courted interest from Arsenal and Manchester United.

Wilfried Zaha to make permanent switch back to Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace could make Wilfried Zaha's return to Selhurst Park permanent this week, according to reports.

The 22-year-old winger, who made his name in South London, joined Manchester United in 2013 under Sir Alex Ferguson, but was seldom used by successor David Moyes.

After falling out of favour under new United manager Louis van Gaal, Zaha rejoined Palace on a season-long loan last summer.

According to The Mirror, the England-capped youngster is willing to end his tenure at Old Trafford with a cut-price transfer back to Palace, and could move in the next few days.

Zaha has made 18 appearances for the club this season.

Ravel Morrison set for Lazio medical ahead of move

West Ham United midfielder Ravel Morrison has agreed to have a medical with Lazio this week ahead of a move to the Serie A club, according to reports.

Lazio emerged as frontrunners for the midfielder's signature earlier this month after it was revealed that he was no longer part of Sam Allardyce's plans at Upton Park.

The 21-year-old's current deal with West Ham expires at the end of the season, and The Telegraph claims that he will sign a pre-contract agreement with Lazio when he arrives in Italy on Wednesday.

It remains unclear whether West Ham will be due a compensation fee for Morrison, who is currently training with the club's Under-21s following an unsuccessful loan spell at Cardiff City.

Morrison joined West Ham from Manchester United in January 2012, but has made just 18 league appearances for the club.

Jose Mourinho: 'Chelsea should have scored in normal time'

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has praised his side's League Cup semi-final victory over a "very difficult" Liverpool side, despite claiming that it should not have gone to extra time.

The two Premier League giants could not be separated by 180 minutes of football, but Branislav Ivanovic's goal in the 94th minute of the second leg ultimately saw the Blues win 2-1 on aggregate and reach the final.

Mourinho told Sky Sports News after the game: "This is a new Liverpool team and a very difficult opponent. So I'm even happier because we beat a very good team over two legs.

"The difference was the goal that should have happened before in the 90 minutes. In the second half we had a lot of football."

Chelsea will face either Tottenham Hotspur or Sheffield United in the final at Wembley in March.

Samuel Eto'o completes Sampdoria switch

Everton have confirmed that Samuel Eto'o has joined Sampdoria on a free transfer.

The 33-year-old was in Italy at the weekend for a medical and discussions over personal terms, while he was also in attendance to watch Samp play out a 1-1 draw with Palermo.

The Toffees, whom the Cameroon striker joined from Chelsea last summer, had remained quiet with regards to the deal, but they have now revealed that the move has been finalised.

"We thank Samuel for his efforts and for bringing his know-how to the team and to Finch Farm where he passed on some of his terrific experience to all of the young players in particular," manager Roberto Martinez told the club's official website.

"The memory of his performances in Europe stand out especially. On behalf of all Evertonians, we wish him well for the next chapter in his career."

In total, Eto'o made 20 appearances for Everton, from which he scored four goals.

All Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals relocated to Bata, Malabo

The Confederation of African Football have announced that all four Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals will be played in either Bata or Malabo.

Two of the four last-eight ties were due to take place there, but now the other two that were supposed to be played in Ebebiyin and Mongomo have been relocated.

The CAF made the decision because of "wear and tear" on the newly-laid surfaces in Ebebiyin and Mongomo and adverse weather conditions in Equatorial Guinea.

A statement read: "The CAF executive committee feels that the eight teams qualified for the quarter-final stages onwards should be given the opportunity to play on grounds that provide the highest standards, specifically those of Bata and Malabo, to ensure the quality of play remains at the highest possible level."

Four of the eight quarter-finalists have been decided so far, with Congo, Congo DR, Tunisia and hosts Equatorial Guinea through. The remaining two quarter-finals will be decided tonight and tomorrow.

New Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final fixture list

Congo vs. Congo DR (Bata, 6pm UK time)
Tunisia vs. Equatorial Guinea (Bata, 9.30pm UK time)
Group C winner vs. Group D runner-up (Malabo, 6pm UK time)

Cristiano Ronaldo sees red: His nine dismissals

Earlier this month, Cristiano Ronaldo was crowned the World Footballer of the Year for the third time.

In truth, there are no more superlatives left to be written about a player that has scored 463 goals in 718 appearances for club and country.

Yet, for all the qualities that the 29-year-old possesses, the red mist can also descend, just as he showed at the weekend during Real Madrid's 2-1 win away at Cordoba. The forward received the ninth red card of his professional career and here, Sports Mole looks back on each of them.

1. Aston Villa vs. Manchester United, May 2004
On the final day of his first full campaign in England, Ronaldo picked up his maiden red card at Villa Park. Booked earlier for a dive, the teenager was handed a second yellow card five minutes from the end for time wasting.

2. Manchester City vs. Manchester United, January 2006
A miserable afternoon for United at the Etihad Stadium was compounded when their Portuguese winger was given a straight red card. Frustrated at a challenge put on him by Stephen Jordan, Ronaldo took out his anger on former United striker Andy Cole. No contact was made, but such was the intent, Ronaldo walked.

3. Portsmouth vs. Manchester United, August 2007
Even Sir Alex Ferguson decided against arguing Ronaldo's case at Fratton Park. With the score level at 1-1 and the game in the closing stages, Ronaldo appeared to headbutt Pompey midfielder Richard Hughes as the two teams waited for a corner to be taken.

4. Manchester City vs. Manchester United, November 2008
Another dismissal for Ronaldo at the Etihad Stadium, although this one was bizarre. His first caution was for a foul on Shaun Wright-Phillips, while he received a second for deliberate handball. Rather than head a corner goalwards, the United attacker inexplicably decided to put both of his hands in front of his face.

5. Real Madrid vs. Almeria, December 2009
Now in the white of Madrid, Ronaldo's first red card in La Liga came five months after his arrival at the Bernabeu. Seemingly frustrated at having missed a penalty earlier in the contest, the £80m man was sent for an early bath as a result of two petulant bookings in the closing stages.

6. Real Madrid vs. Malaga, January 2010
Just six weeks later, Ronaldo saw red again. He had scored his side's two goals, but took exception to his shirt being pulled by Patrick Mtiliga. A stray elbow caught the Malaga midfielder square on the nose, breaking the bone. Unsurprisingly, the referee brandished a straight red card.

7. Real Madrid vs. Atletico Madrid, May 2013

It was a Copa del Rey final that started so well for Ronaldo as he opened the scoring. However, Atletico hit back and were on their way to lifting the trophy when Ronaldo was involved in altercation with Gabi. The Atletico midfielder certainly made the most of it, but nevertheless, Ronaldo was instantly dismissed.

8. Athletic Bilbao vs. Real Madrid, February 2014
In fairness to the talisman, he can count himself a little unlucky to have been sent off at the San Mames. He made minimal contact with Bilbao's Carlos Gurpegi, who hit the ground dramatically. Despite the protest of his teammates, Ronaldo was sent off for the fourth time in his Madrid career.

9. Cordoba vs. Real Madrid, January 2015
One report has suggested that Ronaldo could face up to a 12-game suspension for his actions at the Estadio Nuevo Arcangel on Saturday. Having been ever so lucky to escape punishment for a punch on Ivan Crespo, moments later Ronaldo kicked out at Edimar. The referee saw that particular offence and had no hesitation in brandishing a red card.

Barcelona rejected Antoine Griezmann as a youngster

Barcelona reportedly rejected the chance to sign Antoine Griezmann as a youngster after deeming the Frenchman 'too small'.

The 23-year-old joined Real Sociedad's youth academy in 2005 and progressed into the first team, where he starred for five seasons.

The attacker's form at Sociedad earned him a move to the Spanish champions Atletico Madrid last summer, where he has scored 13 goals in 27 matches this season.

However, according to Sport, Barcelona could have signed the forward for free when he was a youngster in France.

The report has claimed that Txiki Begiristain, who was director of football at Barca from 2003 until 2010, believed that Griezmann was 'too small' to make it in the game.

Griezmann has also scored five times in 14 games for France.

Bojan out for nine months

Stoke City could reportedly have to make do without the services of Bojan for the next nine months.

The Spaniard, who after a tricky start to life in the Premier League has become a key part of Mark Hughes's team at the Britannia Stadium, limped off during the first half of Stoke's 4-1 FA Cup victory over Rochdale last night.

Speaking after the final whistle, Hughes admitted that the condition of the 24-year-old's left knee was a cause for "concern", with a scan expected to take place today.

According to Spanish publication Marca, the former Barcelona forward has now learned the extent of the problem, with a damaged cruciate ligament having been revealed.

If confirmed, the injury could potentially keep Bojan sidelined until the latter part of 2015.

The striker, who opened the scoring at Spotland, has found the net on five occasions during his 18 appearances this season.

Neymar: 'I want to retire at Barcelona'

Brazilian forward Neymar has claimed that he could see himself retiring at current club Barcelona.

The 22-year-old joined the Catalan side from Santos in 2013 and has netted 34 times in 65 games during his time at the Camp Nou.

It is widely thought that the striker will return to Brazil before hanging up his boots, but Neymar is not considering that possibility at the moment.

"Do I plan to end my career at Barca? I have no intention of leaving. I want to win silverware and join my teammates in writing our names into the club's history," Marca quotes Neymar as saying.

The forward netted 15 times in 41 games during his debut season in Spain, but has already registered 19 in just 24 matches this term.
