Chelsea defender David Luiz agree 5-year deal with Barcelona

Barcelona have reportedly reached an agreement with David Luiz over a potential summer move to the Nou Camp according to Football Direct News.

The Catalan club have been actively pursuing a long term replacement for Carles Puyol, who is set to leave Barcelona, and have identified the 26 year old Chelsea fan favourite as the man for the job.

Barca sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta is said to have secured terms with Luiz that would see the former Benfica man sign a five year deal worth around £4.5m a year.

Chelsea are yet to agree a fee with Barcelona but they will be wanted upwards of £20m for the Brazilian international who has been something of a bit-part player this season.

Luiz was a key member of the Chelsea sides that won the Champions League and Europa League titles but has started less than half of the west London club’s Premier League fixtures this term and has more frequently been used in a defensive midfield role.

Chelsea signed Luiz in January 2011 for a fee of £20m in a deal that also saw Nemanja Matic move to Benfica and the big Blues star has gone on to make 143 appearances for the club.
