Nicola Rizzoli picked to referee World Cup final

Sunday's World Cup final between Germany and Argentina will be refereed by Italy's Nicola Rizzoli, FIFA have announced.

The 42-year-old official, who took charge of the 2013 Champions League final at Wembley, was the subject of criticism from Belgium head coach Marc Wilmots after his side's quarter-final defeat by Argentina.

"I don't want to be a cry baby, but I noticed the referee never gives fouls against Agentina," Wilmots told reporters.

"Every time something happens with Messi the referee gives him a free-kick."

Rizzoli was also in charge of Argentina's 3-2 win over Nigeria in Group F, as well as Holland's emphatic 5-1 group stage victory against reigning champions Spain.
