Cristian Gamboa completes West Bromwich Albion switch

West Bromwich Albion have secured the signing of full-back Cristian Gamboa from Rosenborg.

The 24-year-old is thought to have agreed a switch to The Hawthorns a number of days ago, but the move was held up because of work permit issues.

However, West Brom lodged an application with the Football Association, who granted the Costa Rica international a work permit at a hearing this afternoon.

"As I commented the other day, it would have been amazing if Cristian had not been granted a work permit and we're obviously satisfied with today's outcome," manager Alan Irvine told the club's official website. "Cristian is a player I was extremely impressed by during the World Cup.

"We faced stiff competition from other Premier League clubs for his services but we've managed to convince Cristian that West Bromwich Albion is the best club for him to join.

"Cristian is a quick, aggressive defender with good energy levels. He gets up and down the pitch really well and we believe he will continue to improve."

Gamboa, who will the number 16 shirt, is West Brom's eighth signing of the summer and their second today following the arrival of fellow full-back Jason Davidson from Dutch club Heracles Almelo.
