Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has revealed the club only received half of Diego Costa's transfer fee from Chelsea.
Costa arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer for £32m and has taken to life in the Premier League effortlessly, with nine goals to his name already.
However, the La Liga champions claim to have received just £16m for the target man, with the rest of the money seemingly going to third-party ownership.
And Cerezo admits it was a poor piece of business for the club to let the Spain international leave.
“He is one of the best strikers in the world,” Cerezo said.
“His departure was hastened because we had a weak moment in which we couldn’t say no.
“If it was to happen now, he wouldn’t go.
"The economic issue hasn’t been good for us as we got 50 per cent of what was said. It was more about money for him.”
