Manchester City will make a move for midfielder Steven Gerrard, if the Liverpool captain fails to agree a new deal at Anfield.
The 34-year-old's future with the Merseyside club was brought into focus after revealing in an interview that he would not be retiring at the end of the season. The European Cup-winning skipper also indicated that he would consider a move away from the Reds, should a contract extension not be forthcoming.
However, the Daily Mail claims that the Premier League champions are interested in signing the ex-England international as Manuel Pellegrini looks to increase the number of homegrown players in his squad.
It is also thought that recruiting Gerrard would be a boost to City, who are hamstrung Financial Fair Play rules and are beleived to be on the hunt for transfer bargains.
Gerrard was part of the Liverpool team, which lost 1-0 away to Newcastle United on Saturday.
