Manchester City and Cote d'Ivoire midfielder Yaya Toure last night completed a consecutive hat-trick of African Player Of the Year awards,beating Nigeria and Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel and fellow country man and Galatasaray forward Didier Drogba. The towering Citizens midfielder was top favourite for the award following a fabulous performance for both club and country in 2013,that earned him a place among Europe's elite in the Fifa Ballon d'Or 23 man shortlist,the only African to have made the cut this term. Beign the only player in the final 3-man African Player of the year award nominees without a trophy in 2013,pundits were quick to narrow down the award to Nigeria's Mikel Obi for his double swoop of the 2013 Afcon and the UEFA Europa League in the same year. Eventual winner Yaya Toure in his speech on the night,was quick to highlight his surprise and delight at receiving the award for a third straight time,and commended and sympathised with Chelsea's John Obi Mikel for loosing out. Yaya who has grown to become a key player at Man. City has continued to dazzle the Premier League week after week with his strength,tenacity,shot power/accuracy and a keen eye for goal,including some fabulous free kicks that have made him a top favourite for close range free kicks for Pellegrini's men in recent games. Undoubtedly the finest player in the continent at the moment,Yaya Toure has brought in a lot of consistency to his game of recent. The versatile midfielder who will anchor defensive midfield position,will prefectly fit in when deployed centrally and will be a torn in the flesh of any defence when deployed at "the hole" just behind a striker. Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel,who would have felt this was his year,however came in 2nd leaving Galatasaray striker Didier Drogba in his wake.
