10-man Manchester City were humbled at the Etihad, after a dominant FC Barcelona performance left the Champions League hopes of the Citizens in the balance.
Lionel Messi converted from the spot after the break,in an incident which led to the sending off of centre back Martin Demichelis.
The furious City boss Manuel Pellegrini and the rest of the Etihad faithful had pointed out at a foul on Jesus Navas in the build up to the Penalty, awarded to Barcelona for Demichelis' foul on Lionel Messi inside the box, which led to his sending off.
City came out brighter from the red card and pushed all out for an equaliser, with David Silva pulling the strings brilliantly for the men in blue, but the end result up front lacking,as Alvaro Negredo failed to deliver, and substitute Edin Dzeko given limited time.
Barca would then seal the win though, and with moments to the final whistle,Dani Alves broke through the City defence to fire through the legs of Joe Hart and seal the win for the visitors.
Manuel Pellegrini's men will hope to over-turn a 2-0 deficit, when they visit the Nou Camp for the UEFA Champions League round of 16 second leg, with a hopeful Sergio Aguero returning to lead the line.
Paris Saint Germain will feel they have all but booked a place in the next round of the UEFA Champions League, following their 4-0 rout of German hosts Bayer Leverkusen at the BayArena.
Blaise Matuidi got the scoring underway after just 3 minutes, cooly slotting home from a neatly threaded Marco Verratti pass through the Leverkusen defence to put the visitors in front.
Maxwell cut the ball into the area from the byline on the left and Ezequiel Lavezzi went down under pressure from Spahic. There were hardly any appeals from the PSG players, apart from Lavezzi, but the referee spotted a shirt pull on the Argentinian and pointed to the spot
Blaise Matuidi would later set up Zlatan Ibrahimovic to rifle home beautifully with a left footed drive from outside the box,to double his tally on the night and put PSG three up.
Leverkusen were reduced to 10 men in the 59th minute, defender Emir Spahic harshly sent off for two yellow cards.
It would then be substitute Yocan Cabaye to wrap up the route and complete the hosts misery late on with his debut PSG goal, after he was laid up by Lucas Moura to whoop home from outside the box.
PSG will now have their work cut out,as they look to seal a place in the UCL Quater-Finals with a stroll in the park when the Germans visit Paris for their Round of 16 second leg clash.
