Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola has admitted that he may have been offered the chance to become Manchester United manager when he met Sir Alex Ferguson last season.
Guardiola had lunch with Ferguson five months before the Scot announced his retirement from football, prompting speculation that the former Barcelona boss had been offered the job during his 12-month sabbatical.
The 43-year-old will lead his Bayern side out at Old Trafford for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final against David Moyes's United on Tuesday, and he admitted that any job offer may have been lost in translation.
"He invited me to a super restaurant. It was a friendly dinner, like always. He was so gentle and we spent a very good time together," Guardiola told reporters.
"My English is not so good and when Sir Alex spoke quickly I didn't understand him so maybe I didn't understand if I received an offer or not."
Current holders Bayern are bidding to become the first team to retain the trophy in the Champions League era.
