Frank Lampard, John Obi Mikel pick up Champions League suspensions

Frank Lampard and John Obi Mikel will both be unavailable for Chelsea's Champions League semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid next week after being shown yellow cards in the 0-0 draw in Spain on Tuesday.

Mikel was booked for a clash with Atletico captain Gabi, who will also miss the tie at Stamford Bridge, as players from both sides surrounded referee Jonas Eriksson after Lampard had appeared to handle the ball.

The 35-year-old had previously been cautioned for a foul on Arda Turan and was perhaps fortunate to escape further punishment, but will nonetheless miss the return fixture in London next Wednesday.

With January signing Nemanja Matic ineligible for European competition, Blues boss Jose Mourinho will have little choice but to partner Brazilian pair Ramires and David Luiz in central midfield.

Goalkeeper Petr Cech and captain John Terry have also been ruled out of Madrid's visit to the English capital with season-ending injuries, while top scorer Eden Hazard is still battling a calf strain.
