Man. United 1-1 Bayern Munich ; Schweinsteiger earn Bayern away goal Old Trafford stalemate

Bayern Munich had to come from behind to ensure that they head into the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Manchester United level, after their match at Old Trafford finished 1-1 this evening.

The home side thought that they had taken the lead just a couple of minutes into the match when Danny Welbeck slotted the ball into the back of the net, but his goal was ruled out for a foul in the build up.

Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery led a dominant spell for the reigning European champions, but they could not get the better of David de Gea.

Welbeck had another chance shortly before the break with only Manuel Neuer to beat, but the Bayern keeper managed to direct the finish away from goal with his fingertips.

The hosts made a bright start to the second half, and were able to edge ahead just short of the hour mark when Wayne Rooney's corner fell for Nemanja Vidic to head in.

The German champions quickly regained their composure and pressed for an equaliser, as Jerome Boateng tried to power the ball in from 30 yards out.

Bayern were back on level terms just a few moments later as Bastian Schweinsteiger smashed a volley into the roof of the net, giving the visitors an away goal.

Robben had a chance to give the visitors the lead with just over 10 minutes left to play after collecting the ball from Mario Gotze, but his finish went just wide of the post.

The visitors finished the match with 10 men after Schweinsteiger picked up his second yellow of the night, ruling him out of the second leg along with Javi Martinez.
