Andy Wilkinson signs new one-year Stoke City contract

Stoke City have announced that Andy Wilkinson has signed a new one-year contract at the Britannia.

The 29-year-old made his senior debut for the Potters in 2001, and went on to make more than 180 appearances in all competitions.

"I am very happy to sign again for Stoke," Wilkinson told the club's official website. "This is a club that I love and I want to stay at. It would be hard for me to leave, so it wasn't a hard decision to make and I am delighted to get the deal done.

"It's been a frustrating season for me, not playing as many games as I would have liked to, but that is a credit to the lads who have played. There have not been many chances to be involved but I feel that I still have something to offer, which is why I am happy to stay."

Manager Mark Hughes added: "Everyone knows how much the club means to Andy – he's Stoke City through and through. He didn't play as many games last season as he would have hoped but he's determined to force his way back into the side on a regular basis and still has a part to play going forward."

Wilkinson, who has the option to add a further 12 months to his new deal, made just six first-team appearances during the 2013-14 campaign.
