Atletico Madrid centre-back, Diego Godin was surprisingly named La Liga’s Player of the Month for April, after the squad maintained their lead in the La Liga title race.
In the presentation, La Liga praised Godin for his contributions to Diego Simeone’s side and considers him a vital part of the club’s success this season.
“Atlético de Madrid’s sensational season has seen many of their players recognised. One of their key men is without doubt Diego Godín. The Uruguay international has played 32 games in the league, and is one of the players who has played the most minutes under Diego Pablo Simeone.”
Godin was grateful to receive the honour, especially being a defender, as they rarely get recognised for such awards.
“It’s an honour and a great source of joy to be chosen among so many important players in La Liga. The attacking players are used to getting these kinds of awards but for me to win it as a defender is a real honour.
“We’re doing great things and that’s generated a lot of excitements. We want to keep the good times rolling and getting the maximum from everyone.”
The Uruguayan international then gushed with pride when speaking about the club.
“This is a very special club that makes you feels at home. The fans feed our hunger for wanting to achieve great things. There are three finals left and we’ll fight for them to the death.”
