Manchester United have made a £27m bid for Southampton full-back Luke Shaw, according to reports.
Shaw has established himself as one of the brightest young prospects in English football after a fine series of performances for the Saints this season.
The 18-year-old has been widely linked with a move away from St Mary's this summer, with United, Liverpool and Chelsea among the teams rumoured to be interested in him.
However, it is United who appear to have made the first move, tabling a £27m bid for the left-back as they look for a long-term replacement for Patrice Evra, according to Sky Sports News.
Evra's future at Old Trafford is also shrouded in uncertainty after he revealed that he would decide whether to stay within the next two weeks.
The Frenchman has been linked with a move to Inter Milan alongside the departing Nemanja Vidic, and United are expected to undergo a major overhaul of their squad following a disappointing season.
The Red Devils have recorded their worst-ever Premier League campaign, finishing in seventh place and missing out on European football altogether.
United are currently without a permanent manager, although it is widely expected that Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal will take charge of the club after the World Cup.
Shaw could also be involved in Brazil following his impressive season, although Roy Hodgson is likely to decide between him and Ashley Cole for the second left-back spot behind Leighton Baines.
