Roy Hodgson names 23-man England World Cup squad

Roy Hodgson has selected the 23 players that will represent England at the World Cup in Brazil this summer.

As expected, 18-year-old Luke Shaw, who has just one senior international cap to his name, has been preferred to Ashley Cole at left-back, while Cole's Chelsea teammate Frank Lampard has been included.

Elsewhere, Southampton frontman Rickie Lambert has been named as one of four strikers, along with Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Daniel Sturridge.

Everton teenager Ross Barkley has also been selected by Hodgson, as have Arsenal's midfield duo of Jack Wilshere and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, despite recent injury problems.

Goalkeepers: Joe Hart (Manchester City), Ben Foster (West Bromwich Albion), Fraser Forster (Celtic)

Defenders: Leighton Baines (Everton), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Phil Jones (Man Utd), Luke Shaw (Southampton), Chris Smalling (Man Utd)

Midfielders: Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Ross Barkley (Everton), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Adam Lallana (Southampton), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), James Milner (Manchester City), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), Raheem Sterling (Liverpool), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal)

Strikers: Rickie Lambert (Southampton), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool), Danny Welbeck (Manchester United)
