Peter Odemwingie: 'Nigeria can win World Cup'

Nigeria have the potential to reach the final of the World Cup on July 13, according to Peter Odemwingie.

Peter Odemwingie is adamant that Nigeria boast enough quality in their ranks to win the World Cup this summer.

Odemwingie fired the Super Eagles to their first win of the competition in Saturday's 1-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina to boost their prospects of making the last 16.

The Stoke City ace feels that his nation are the sleeping giants of the tournament and claims that his teammates have the potential to reach the final at the Maracana on July 13.

"I saw a Brazilian on the street who told me he foresaw Nigeria playing the final against Brazil and I said to myself why not, going by the level of our players and the fact that they are yet to peak," Odemwingie told reporters.

"But mark my words - we have a very resilient defence, a creative midfield and an attack force that can trouble any defence in the world, if we played to our potentials, we can go all the way."

Second-placed Nigeria face already-qualified Argentina in their final Group F encounter on Wednesday knowing that a defeat would see them exit the competition if Iran beat Bosnia and Herzegovina by a two-goal margin.

  4. Well I can't say much now fo d fact dat we haven't played a tough opposition in other to ascertain d level and strength of our defence...we aren't doing badly thou considering d fact dat we ve not conceded any goals yet, but if bosnia or Iran were a bit technical I bet u they wuld have scored cuz I stil don't trust dat our defence line with yobo dere.....except he clears my doubt against Argentina den I can say we wuld go far in this tournament

  6. Well I will say he's just being optimistic... But from my own point of view the team hasn't bonded yet.there's stil so much work to do from d defence to the midfield even the attack and d finishing.dey need to calm down and not be in a hurry score.but wit wat I have seen I don't tink we are capable of winning the European and south americans
