Aston Villa face a tough task to retain the services of club captain Ron Vlaar after the emergence of European heavyweights Lazio and Roma.

Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport revealed that Vlaar has caught the eye of the Serie A duo with his robust, no nonsense defending throughout the World Cup.
Though Vlaar doesn't command an astronomical valuation, his importance at the heart of Paul Lambert's defence is invaluable - especially for a side with so few experienced first-team players.

Villa fans hope that Lambert's staunch refusal to sell his Dutch international will deter any potential suitors, but a fee in the region of £10m could prove far too tempting to decline.
Manchester United and Tottenham have also been linked with a move for for the 29-year-old.
Louis Van Gaal understands that adding experience to his back line is crucial in the development of youngsters Phil Jones and Chris Smalling.
Mauricio Pochettino is clearly dissatisfied with his back line, already adding Michel Vorm and Ben Davies to bolster his defensive options.
Though admittedly an unglamorous centre-half, Vlaar has an abundance of Premier League and international experience - perfect for the demands of England's premier competition.
