Robin van Persie needs knee operation

Manchester United centre-forward Robin van Persie is reportedly in need of an operation on his knee.

The 31-year-old damaged a ligament back in February, but he put off going under the surgeon's knife at the time so that he could be fit for this summer's World Cup.

However, there is a belief among the coaching staff at United that the Dutch international will not be at his best until he has the problem corrected, according to The People.

The report added, though, that no date has been set for the former Arsenal frontman to undergo the necessary procedure.
