Barcelona vice-captain, Andres Iniesta is set to play the 100th Champions League match of his storied career, when the Blaugrana take on Ligue 1 champions, PSG at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday evening.
According to the club, Iniesta will only be the fourth player in club history to reach this particular milestone, joining current captain Xavi Hernandez (148 games – 12 goals), former captain Carles Puyol (120 games – 2 goals) and former goalkeeper, Victor Valdes (110 games – 90 goals conceded).
“On Tuesday night, Andrés Iniesta returns to Paris, the city where he won his first Champions League winners medal, with the opportunity of making his hundredth appearance in the competition. In the 99 games he’s played in since making his debut against Bruges in the 2002/03 season, Iniesta has scored ten goals and picked up three winners medals.
“Iniesta won his first winners medal on May 17, 2006, as Eto’o and Belletti got the goals to win Barça the first of a trio of trophies over the next five years, with the wins in Rome in 2009 and London in 2011. Yet it is for the goal in the semi-final against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in 2009 that Iniesta will be best remembered, as his dramatic, late strike ensured a place in the Rome final.”
Iniesta is expected to start after resting this past weekend against Granada.
