Craig Dawson signs new three-year deal at West Bromwich Albion

West Bromwich Albion have announced that defender Craig Dawson has signed a new three-year deal at The Hawthorns.

The 24-year-old, whose contract will run until 2017, has impressed head coach Alan Irvine after starting all six of the Baggies' Premier League matches this season.

Dawson's future at the club was in doubt over the summer, but the club were able to fend off interest from league rivals Burnley.

"Obviously Craig was very unsettled when I first arrived in the summer but we as a club were never interested in selling him," Irvine told the club's official website.

"We felt he had the potential to be a top centre-back and once he got his head settled and knew he wasn't going anywhere he started to put in very good performances.

"His level of consistency has kept him in the team despite our having top international centre-backs breathing down his neck. Getting a new contract, which he thoroughly deserves, completes a great start to the season for him and I'm really pleased for the lad."

Dawson joined the club back in 2010.
