Paul Lambert: "We should have won it"

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert believes that his side should have taken all three points from their Premier League clash against Burnley.

Villa took the lead in the 39th minute through Joe Cole, but were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw as Danny Ings netted a late penalty for Sean Dyche's men.

Lambert is adamant that his side had enough chances to kill off the game before Ings found the net, and feels that his team dropped two valuable points at Turf Moor.

He told the club's official website: "We should have won it. We should have been out of the sight in the first half to be honest. With the chances in the first half, we should have put the game to bed.

"The way we played for long spells of that game was really good. We should have killed the game off. We had chances to do it. Burnley came into it to their credit when they got the penalty and it puts you on the back foot.

"We lost two points. We could have lost three towards the end when Burnley hit the post. Burnley came at us really strongly in that little burst of play. When you pick up points away from home, it's good in this league. But this was one we should have won. This is a game that got away from us."

Villa are winless in eight games and are 16th in the Premier League, with 13 points from their 13 matches.
