Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote believes that his side learned a valuable lesson in their 4-1 defeat Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
The Magpies came crashing down to earth following their win over Chelsea last week as they were hammered by the Gunners as Oliver Giroud and Santi Cazorla notched two goals apiece, while Ayoze Perez netted a consolation strike for the visitors.
Tiote told the club's official website: "Everybody is disappointed about the game. When Ayo scored it gave us the confidence that we could get back into the game, and we tried to push and push to make it closer.
"Because of that we conceded the fourth goal on the break, and that can happen when you are chasing the game. We have been on a very good run and we still have confidence in ourselves, but we have to improve.
"We know we can do better than this and we will learn from the match. We didn't defend well enough as a team and did not do the right things on the pitch. We have to learn quickly to put it right for Wednesday night against Tottenham."
Alan Pardew's men face Tottenham Hotspur in their Capital One Cup quarter-final matchup on Wednesday at White Hart Lane.
