Arsenal have missed out on the chance to sign Marcelo Brozovic after the Dinamo Zagreb star joined Inter Milan on a two-year loan deal.
Inter have the option to turn the move into a permanent one, however the deal will be a source of frustration to Arsene Wenger.
The Gunners had been in talks over a £6m move for the 22-year-old, who hit one goal in seven appearances at the Croatian outfit.
"I am delighted to have joined a big club playing in a competitive league with lots of challenges lying ahead," Brozovic told Dinamo's official website.
"I will miss the many friends I have made at Dinamo but on the other hand, I am really looking forward to life in Italy."
Brozovic will bring a winning mentality to Inter's dressing room having lifted two league titles with Dinamo.
He will link up with his compatriot Mateo Kovacic at the San Siro.
