Liverpool make move for Ciro Immobile to replace £16m flop Mario Balotelli

Brendan Rodgers is reportedly looking to offload Mario Balotelli and replace him with his international team-mate Ciro Immobile.

Balotelli has struggled on his return to the Premier League at Anfield and Rodgers has grown weary of the former Manchester City striker's indifferent performances.

And according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Rodgers has identified Borussia Dortmund forward Immobile as the man to support Daniel Sturridge in the Liverpool attack next season.

Di Marzio said on his website: "Ciro Immobile could be leaving Germany for England.

"Liverpool are interested in the Italian striker. The Reds have contacted Borussia Dortmund’s director Zorc. Immobile could replace Balotelli."

Immobile only moved to Germany last summer from Torino for £15.5m after scoring 22 goals in the 2013-14 season.

But he has struggled for goals under Jurgen Klopp this year, scoring just three times.
