Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal given green light for striker overhaul

Radamel Falcao will leave Manchester United in the summer and could be followed out the Old Trafford exit by Robin van Persie, according to Paul McGrath.

United are yet to formally confirm their plans with respect to Falcao, who is on loan from Monaco with an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season.

But the Colombian has failed to win a regular place in Louis van Gaal's plans this season, and McGrath is in no doubt that he will be on his way back to Ligue 1.

McGrath told talkSPORT: “Without a doubt, he’ll be gone.

“Robin Van Persie might be off as well, even with the Dutch connection with Van Gaal.”

Van Gaal has been criticised in some quarters for his handling of Falcao, but McGrath has praised the Dutch tactician for United's current form.

“Man United are on a roll at the moment,” he added. “Louis van Gaal deserves so much praise for it really.

“They have played badly for quite a lot of the season, so much so I didn’t think they’d get into the top four this year, but he’s done an amazing job.

“For them to be where they are now is incredible. I believe they’ll beat Manchester City on Sunday as well.”
