Manuel Pellegrini has placed the blame on Manchester City's stuttering season on not having enough cash to spend.
Manuel Pellegrini says Man City couldn't compete with the other top club's big spends
The Premier League holders look to have relinquished their title and the Chilean feels it's because the other top clubs spent more.
And it seems City's millions just aren't quite enough for the former Real Madrid boss who believes it's 'impossible' to win without the right funds.
He said: "We cannot win trophies every year. "It's impossible, especially this year.
"Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool spent more money and they have very strong squads.
"I don't think it is a bad position or there is shame to be in second place for this squad.
"Maybe I can complain about other things this season - the way we lost in the FA Cup and League Cup, but in the Premier League it's not easy to be in second place when you have five or six strong teams."
The Sky Blues are currently 10 points adrift of league leaders Chelsea with just four games remaining.
