Arsene Wenger tells Arsenal fans to "support the team"

Arsene Wenger has told disgruntled Arsenal fans to trust his judgement over refusing to sign a striker during the summer transfer window.

The Gunners were the only club in Europe's top five divisions not to add an outfield player, with goalkeeper Petr Cech their solitary signing for the 2015-16 campaign.

The Frenchman has come under fire for failing to add a forward, in particular, with Olivier Giroud being Arsenal's only established centre-forward.

"To support the club and support the team is to stand behind the players," Wenger told a press conference ahead of Stoke City's visit to the Emirates on Saturday.

"It is not always expecting someone coming down from heaven to sort out all your problems."

Earlier on Thursday, the 65-year-old insisted that he did not lie about the severity of Danny Welbeck's injury, with the winger scheduled to be out for a number of months.

The news of his injury was revealed last Wednesday, one day after the window closed.
