Steven Caulker: 'We can only blame ourselves'

Cardiff City defender Steven Caulker has admitted that he and his teammates can only blame themselves for their relegation from the Premier League.

Off-the-field incidents have plagued the Bluebirds this season involving owner Vincent Tan among others, as well as the sacking of Malky Mackay in December.

However, the Cardiff skipper is adamant that their performances haven't been good enough to avoid the drop, which was confirmed following their 3-0 defeat to Newcastle United.

"Yeah, there's been the antics off the pitch," Caulker told reporters. "I think we're strong characters in there.

"I think everyone managed to block it out and just focused on what we were doing on the pitch. But we've got to hold our hands up, there's definitely no excuses for the way we've performed in too many games."

Cardiff are 20th in the Premier League with 30 points from 37 games this season.
