Here’s exactly what Brazil, Mexico and Croatia need to do to qualify from World Cup Group A
With four games in the group gone, here’s what each team needs to do to reach the second round
BRAZIL - 4 POINTS
With a win and a draw from their first two games, Brazil know that a draw or a win against Cameroon in their final game will see them qualify.
They are pretty much there, but they could still get elimanated.
If Brazil were to lose to Cameroon, and Mexico and Croatia drew their final game, Brazil might get edged out on goal difference.
Or, if Brazil lost to Cameroon, and Mexico lost by a smaller margin to Croatia, Mexico could pip them to the post.
But, let's be realistic, we’ve seen Cameroon play, and they are NOT going to beat Brazil.
MEXICO - 4 POINTS
Likewise, with a win and a draw from their first two games, Mexico are almost there, because they are one point ahead of Croatia. Provided they avoid defeat against Croatia, Mexico will qualify.
CROATIA - 3 POINTS
Croatia will feel they had a hard time with refereeing decisions in their opening game with Brazil. They’ve subsequently tonked Cameroon.
Croatia’s last game is as close to “must win” as you’ll get in a group situation. Beat Mexico, and they are through. Draw, and they need Cameroon to beat Brazil. Lose, and they are going home.
CAMEROON : ELIMINATED.
Sorry: Cameroon have conceded five, and are yet to score. They aren’t going to be in the second round.
