Atletico Madrid confirm Javier Hernandez is the man to replace Diego Costa

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has confirmed interest in Manchester United forward Javier Hernandez, after losing Diego Costa to Chelsea this summer.

Hernandez found his first-team opportunities limited at Old Trafford last season, starting just six Premier League games under former boss David Moyes.

And the Mexico striker appears to have fallen further down the striking ranks since the arrival of Louis Van Gaal, with Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck all preferred.

However, the 26-year-old could revive his career with a move to Atletico, who are still looking to replace Costa, the club's top goalscorer in the 2013/14 campaign.

Simeone has already secured to the services of Mario Mandzukic, but is still in the market for more firepower as he looks to retain the La Liga title.
