Barcelona look set to trump Manchester United in the race to sign Colombian midfielder Juan Cuadrado after being crowned firm favourites for his signature.
Cuadrado has been plagued by transfer speculation since his sharp rise to prominence, the catalyst of which were his stellar performances for World Cup surprise package Colombia.
Domestic side Fiorentina reacted immediately to enquiries by slapping an inflated £30m price-tag on their coveted star.
But after months of confusion, doubts and failed negotiations - Barcelona are finally close to capturing their man.
I hope that the deal goes through [to Barcelona], he is a great friend of mine

Reports in Spain claim the dynamic midfielder has opted to join the Nou Camp, and will shortly begin formal negotiations.
Bookmakers have also tipped the Catalan giants to win the race for Cuadrado's signature, shortening his odds from 3/1 to 10/11.
Cuadrado commands a very modest £500,000 per-year salary - a figure certain to rise ten-fold if he makes the move away from Italy.
The Spanish giants have long admired Cuadrado - his exuberant personality combined with an abundance of pace, power and agility made him one of the stand-out players of the World Cup.
Though the winger was overshadowed by the unparalleled brilliance of team-mate James Rodriguez - Luis Enrique clearly values his Herculean performances and versatility.
Cuadrado may well line up against his fellow countrymen in La Liga next season, after Rodriguez urged him to join him in Spain.
He said: "I hope that the deal goes through, he is a great friend of mine,” James has told Radio Caracol this week.
"If he were to arrive, it would open the door to other Colombians, because we would have many playing at great clubs."
