Lionel Messi will reportedly sign a new contract extension with Barcelona this week.
The Argentine international has scored 41 times in 44 games for the Catalan outfit this season, but has been criticised for his performances and perceived lack of effort in the big matches.
Speculation has gathered pace in recent weeks that Manchester City were preparing a bid in the region of £165m for the former Ballon d'Or winner.
However, according to Marca, Messi is close to signing a new deal that will see him become the highest-paid player in world football.
The 26-year-old's current deal expires in 2018.
