Hector Moreno suffers fractured tibia

Espanyol have announced that Mexico defender Hector Moreno suffered a fractured tibia in the 2-1 defeat to the Netherlands on Sunday.

Moreno had to leave the field of play on a stretcher shortly after the half-time break following a collision with Arjen Robben.

A statement on Espanyol's website read: "Hector Moreno has suffered a fractured tibia in his left leg, the medical services of the Mexican national team have confirmed."

Although the severity of the injury is yet to be determined, it is believed that Moreno faces a race in order to be fit for the Catalans' first game of the season.

Miguel Herrera's side were minutes away from sealing a place in the quarter-final of the World Cup.

However, Wesley Sneijder drilled home an 88th-minute equaliser before Klaas Jan Huntelaar stroked from a stoppage-time winner from the penalty spot to cap a dramatic comeback.
