Manchester United reportedly turned down the chance to sign Colombian midfielder James Rodriguez for £5m.
The 22-year-old is the top goalscorer at the World Cup and scored twice for his country in their 2-0 victory over Uruguay on Saturday.
Rodriguez currently plays for Monaco, but according to a report in The Guardian, he was offered to United four years ago when he was playing for Argentine club Banfield.
It is believed that senior scouts at Old Trafford were approached regarding a transfer, but the Premier League club did not come back with a response.
Later that summer United signed Bebe for £7.4m, while Rodriguez moved to Porto for £4m.
