PSV open to Spurs £15m bid for Memphis Depay to fund move for Porto's Steven Defour

PSV are ready to consider a bid from Tottenham for Memphis Depay after admitting they are struggling to afford Steven Defour from Porto.

Reports yesterday suggested that Spurs were lining up a £15m bid for Depay, who impressed for the Netherlands at the World Cup in Brazil.

Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal has recommended Depay stays put at PSV for one more season to continue his development, but the youngster has hinted he would consider offers from the right club.

And it seems that PSV could also be open to accepting an offer for the 20-year-old to aid their own transfer activity.

The Eredivisie club had hoped to sign Belgian international Defour this summer but are currently not in a position to meet Porto's £6m asking price.

PSV are currently willing to pay £4m, but technical director Marcel Brands told Voetbal International today: "Defour is too expensive for us."

That situation could change, however, if PSV agree to sell Depay to Spurs.

Earlier this month Depay said: "I am enjoying myself at PSV, but if nice clubs from big leagues make an approach, I will of course think about it.

"There is plenty of interest, but staying at PSV is definitely an option.

"I understand that the fans wants me to play well this season in Eindhoven.

"I see so many kids with my name on their shirt. I'm proud of that but I'm the one who decides how my career looks and no one else."
