Manchester City's Vincent Kompany doubtful for Man Utd derby with hamstring injury

Vincent Kompany is a doubt for the Manchester derby on Sunday.

City skipper Kompany felt his hamstring tighten during Monday night’s defeat at Crystal Palace and was set to be replaced at one stage by Eliaquim Mangala.

He managed to complete the 90 minutes but has not trained normally this week and boss Manuel Pellegrini will give him a fitness test tomorrow to assess whether he can withstand the rigours of the derby game at Old Trafford.

Pellegrini said: “We will assess Vincent tomorrow regarding the problem in the last game. He finished the game but he didn’t work this week in a normal way. We will see tomorrow if he can play or not.

“I always say it is always better to play with Kompany but if he cannot play we have a squad and the players capable of replacing him.”

Another blow for City is that new striker Wilfried Bony – who scored in each of his three encounters with United for Swansea - has failed to recover in time from the twisted ankle. Also out are Stevan Jovetic and Dedryck Boyata.
