United defender Phil Jones vows win Manchester derby

Phil Jones says Manchester United are determined to end their derby misery and do it in some style.

City have enjoyed a clear ascendancy in Manchester derbies in recent seasons, winning the last four as well as six of the last eight in all competitions.

A fifth successive win on Sunday would be a new best for City in the history of matches with their neighbours, although United hold the best run with eight consecutive victories in the 1990s.

But Jones says United are heading into Sunday's game on a high after five straight wins lifted them above City in the Premier League table for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

"It's nice to go into the derby, such a big game, playing well and in form," he said.

"We need to turn up and make sure we put on another great performance next Sunday. City are still a good team.

"We know what they're capable of and the threat they have going forward.

Phil Jones is confident United will be the ones taking all three points in the derby
"They've got some great players in their squad but so have we.

"We've seen in the last few weeks and all season really, what sort of team we can be when we turn up and play our football. Hopefully, we can do that on Sunday as well."

Robin Van Persie has declared himself fit for the game after six weeks out with an ankle injury while Chris Smalling has recovered from the stomach bug that ruled him out of Saturday's win over Aston Villa.
