Roberto Firmino "ready" to start for Liverpool ahead of Arsenal clash

Liverpool's summer arrival Roberto Firmino has insisted that he is "ready" to grab the opportunity of his first start in the team ahead of tonight's clash against Arsenal at the Emirates.

The Brazil international came off the bench to make his debut in the Reds' 1-0 win over Stoke City on the opening day of the Premier League season.

Last week, the 23-year-old made a cameo appearance in Liverpool's 1-0 triumph over Bournemouth at Anfield.

Ahead of this evening's encounter, Firmino has insisted that he is ready to start if called upon by manager Brendan Rodgers.

"I'm working hard towards [starting a game] - obviously that is my aim, but there's a healthy competition in the squad right now and the manager knows who should be starting games," the Liverpool Echo quotes Firmino as saying.

"So all I can do is keep on working so I will be ready when I am given the chance to start."

Liverpool and Manchester City are the only Premier League teams with a 100% record so far.
