Sporting Lisbon REJECT Southampton's £9.5m Marcos Rojo bid

Southampton have had an initial £9.5m bid for Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool target Marcos Rojo rejected by Sporting Lisbon.

Reports in Portugal suggest that the Saints had representatives in Lisbon yesterday to discuss an offer.

Rojo has been heavily linked with a move to one of England's big clubs this summer after impressing at the World Cup with Argentina.

And that has led Southampton to try and get the jump on their Premier League rivals by making an offer for the 24-year-old.

Rojo has the ability to play at both left back and centre back making him a versatile replacement for either Dejan Lovren or Luke Shaw (despite the arrival of Ryan Bertrand on loan).

However, Sporting have turned down the Saints opening bid due to issues not just over the fee but also the way the payment would be made.

Rojo said recently: "Everyone has a price.

"If a good deal arrives, then I'm sure I will sit down with the club and evaluate things."

However, it seems that at least as far as Sporting are concerned, Southampton are yet to reach that price.
